Methods to Increase the Success Rate of IVF Treatment

Tying or Removing of Fallopian Tubes

In some occasions, patients who have IVF treatment can have clogged or blocked fallopian tubes. If this blockage happens on the tip of the uterus, secretion builds up inside the tubes and it has a toxic effect on embryos. As a result, this condition decreases pregnancy chance by 50%. This problem can be diagnosed with an HSG test.

If the same problem diagnosed on the ultrasound as well, Tying or Removing of Fallopian Tubes can be performed. In case of removing the tubes, the procedure is performed using a laparoscopic camera, reaching the abdomen from the belly. If it is not possible, tubes can be tied in order to cut the connection with the uterus.

PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis)

The PGD method is a diagnostic method which aims to have healthy babies rather than the number of babies. Couples who have the risk of having a baby with health problems can be analyzed using this method.


Women who experience miscarriages or unsuccessful treatments because of chromosomal abnormalities, women having chromosomal abnormalities on later ages or women who have a genetic risk can be diagnosed using the PGD method.

In a basic explanation, cell examples will be taken from embryos which are obtained from IVF treatment and, these cells will be analyzed in order to eliminate transferring unhealthy embryos from the beginning.

Freezing The Embryos

This method aims to preserve embryos which are obtained during the IVF treatment. It increases the success rate of IVF treatment and creates economic and spiritual advantages. Frozen embryos can be used in the next trials and save the patient from undergoing the treatment from the beginning.

In the early years, when the frozen embryos were defrosted, they showed loss of quality. Later, the vitrification method on IVF was invented and this problem was solved.

In order to freeze the embryos, couples consent is needed. After that, frozen embryos are preserved under special conditions. According to the Turkish Law, patients under the age of 35 are obligated to freeze 1 embryo for first and second trials. Because of that, freezing the embryo has a different significance to the patients. The patients who gave consent to freeze embryos can renew their contract every year and preserve their embryos up to 5 years. Embryos of the patients who do not give their consent for preservation will be terminated under the lawful protocol.

Single Blastocyst Transfer

In some countries including Turkey, the embryo transfer is limited by law. According to the Turkish Law, patients under the age of 35 are obligated to freeze 1 embryo for first and second trials. The Single Blastocyst Transfer method provides a great advantage for patients who live in these countries.

The most important aspect of this treatment is that the pregnancy acquired using this method has the most similarity to natural pregnancy. With this method, it is possible to choose the best embryos which shows the best growth potential among others. This increases the chance of success and eliminates the chance of multiple pregnancies.

Micro-TESE Method

In a situation when there is no sperm inside the semen, having a child was impossible for men. After the discovery and implementation of this method, the treatment is possible. Micro-TESE method provides hope for patients who suffer from this problem.

In Micro-TESE method, testicular tissue samples are harvested and analyzed using a special microscope. When the expected outcome is achieved, the sperms are injected to the eggs. In some situations, if it is necessary, the sperms can be preserved by freezing them.

If there is a blockage on the sperm canal, healthy sperm can be harvested all of the patients. If the cause of the problem is male reproductive failure, the success rate drops to 50%.

Thinning of Zona Pellucida

One of the most common problems on patients who have IVF treatment is not being achieved the pregnancy despite having a healthy development of the embryo. Usually, this problem is caused when the embryo couldn't be able to perish the layer surrounding and fail to place itself to the uterus wall. Thinning the surrounding layer is a solution to this problem and it increases the chance of pregnancy.

There are 3 different methods for thinning process: Chemical, Mechanical, and Laser. Using one of these methods, either the surrounding layer is thinned or a small hole is created. After the treatment, the embryo could get out safely.
